Risk assessment on security issues of cross-border electronic authentication

During the last years European Member States have increasingly issued electronically readable identity documents (eIDs) to their citizens for different purposes and applications. However European eID card schemes hardly operate cross-border. In light of the European Service Directive this is not acceptable.

On behalf of the ENISA (European Network and Information Security Agency) Dirk Hartmann and Stephan Körting, Senior Consultants of HJP Consulting have developed an assessment of security issues of cross-border electronic authentication across member states of the European Union. The study is focusing on the differences between national and cross-border e-authentication schemes.

The presentation having been prepared by Mr. Sławomir Górniak, ENISA, and Markus Hartmann, HJP Consulting, will show the key findings of the study. The study itself was published at the beginning of February 2010.
